The screening test cannot harm you or the baby but it is important to consider carefully whether to have this test or not. Screening tests can be done to work out the chance that your baby has Down syndrome. They cannot tell for sure whether your baby has Down syndrome – they can tell if the risk of your baby having Down syndrome is higher than usual. The tests are not compulsory.

12 Week Scan

You may wish to find out early in your pregnancy if your baby is at increased risk of a serious health condition by having a screening test in your first trimester the first 3 months of pregnancy.
